Tim Hiett CFI

Tim is our Chief Flying Instructor and has close to 2000 flying hours on a wide variety of aircraft. He first went solo on gliders at the age of 17 and has been flying on and off ever since.
Tim has a Commercial Licence, instrument and multi-engine ratings and also teaches IMC and Night Rating. When he is not flying he enjoys walking, cycling and sea fishing. |
Simon Birt(CRI)

Simon was born in South Wales, brought up in Surrey and educated in Norfolk.
Immediately after leaving school Simon joined the retail business, then entered the courier industry. This led him to start his own courier company which he ran successfully and sold in the early 1990’s. Simon’s enthusiasm for flying has resulted in him running Bournemouth Flying Club. He is also a CRI and holds many optional ratings. Simon is a keen sailor and also enjoys, walking, motorbikes, skiing, biking and cooking. |
Chris Edwards Operations Manager

Chris started his career in aviation at a early age. He joined the air training corp flying Chipmunks at Manston. Completing basic RAF training. He also dipped into gliders.
Shortly after this he moved to the airlines where he worked for 16 years for 3 major airlines. Travelling the globe and seeing some remarkable sights. Following his stretch in the airlines Chris turned his hand to security and operational work at a major international airport.
He is a family orientated man who enjoys spending time with his family together with swimming, cycling, going to the gym.
On the flying side of things Chris holds a Full PPL with Night qualification and he possesses an IMC Rating. He looks forward to seeing you at Bournemouth Flying Club and is always happy to help. |
Russell Nurthen Deputy CFI

Russell was born and brought up in and around the Bournemouth area. He first flew in a light aircraft when he was 13 and spent his teenage years flying around Europe with his father in a Beechcraft Bonanza. Russ learnt to fly at Interair when it was based at Bournemouth, he continued with his Professional Training at Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training.
Russ also enjoys climbing and board sports. He is qualified to teach NPPL, PPL, CPL, IMC Night Rating and set Ground Exams. |
Barnaby Kerr Instructor

Barnaby is the youngest member of the team at 21. He gained his Private Pilot's License in 2007 and Frozen ATPL in 2008 at Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training. Outside of flying he enjoys traveling, scuba-diving, skiing and loads more!
In April 2009 Barnaby became a Full-Time instructor at Bournemouth Flying Club, he can teach PPL and Night qualifications. |
Derek Baker Instructor

Born in Scotland and raised on the wee Isle of Bute Derek trained as a mechanical engineer before travelling the globe. Initially planning on a year away, he returned 5 years later! He had always dreamt of flying since a young age and once he had saved up enough pennies did his Commercial Pilot training here in Bournemouth.
He did his hour building at Bournemouth Flying Club and we liked him so much we gave him a job as a instructor afterwards! |
Vicky de Candole Marketing (and other stuff)

Vicky was born in Somerset in the late 1950’s, brought up in Dorset and went to school in Avon. After school she had several ‘gap years’ working at ski resorts in the winter and beach resorts in the summer. Eventually she pursued a career in advertising and marketing which led to her working at Bournemouth Flying Club.
Vicky enjoys sailing, skiing, walking with her dog and flying but her main pass time is riding her horse. |
Martin Cruze Operations

Martin was born in Poole in 1970. He has a severe thirst for anything fast and furious including aviation and roller coasters. Martin’s favoured method for everyday transportation is his mountain bike! He has held a PPL for many years and will seize any opportunity to act as ballast in anything that flies!

Susan Mattacks Operations

Susan was born in Derbyshire. From a early age she has been involved in aviation. Working for Channel Express and Ellan Vannin Airlines as part of the Operations team.
She has now joined our fabulous operations team and we are proud to have her on board. |
Deborah Mills Operations

|
Deborah was born in Preston, Lancashire. She went to university in Bournemouth and studied International Marketing Management. She first flew in 1996 here at Bournemouth!
Afterwards Deborah attended Oxford Aviation Academy and gained a First Officer position with BMI, for whom she flew with for 8 years.
She eventually left BMI to concentrate on family life and joins Bournemouth Flying Club part time as a member of our fantastic operations team. |
Ollie Wareham Instructor

Ollie is a local lad. He completed his training at Bournemouth Airport. Completing his PPL at Bournemouth Flying Club when he was just 17. He has experience flying most types of aircraft. From tailwheel to Float Plane. He gained his Commercial Licences at Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training. He is one of our resident aerobatics instructors. |
Graham Cogle Instructor

Graham was born in Kenya in 1960 and brought up and educated in Kent. He finished his education at Greenwich University before moving into process control automation for the pharmaceutical industry. He joined a large computer company in 1988 and now divides his time between working there and his role as a Flying Instructor. Graham gained his PPL in 1999 and currently instructs for NPPL & PPL.
He can now teach Aerobatics, the night qualification soon will be able to teach the IMC.
He enjoys motorcycling, walking and swimming. |
Jester (Managing Dogrector)

Jess was born in Wiltshire in 1997 and shares a home with Cobweb the cat and Vicky. She enjoys a variety of walks and meeting and greeting people.
Her main interests are quality control of biscuits and chasing small furry animals. |
Jon Oades Instructor
 |
Jon’s been flying since forever ago – awarded RAF gliding and flying scholarships and earning his PPL at 17. Whilst grinding out his engineering degree he blagged his way on to Oxford University Air Squadron before becoming an avionics engineer on commercial airliners. He’s been an instructor at BFC since summer ’05 and now instructs for the PPL, Night, IMC and CPL. Outside flying he’s into rugby (Exiles season ticket), Guinness and bad kebabs.
His presence at BFC is betrayed by the rusting hulk of his hard working ‘Blade’ cluttering up the car park because at 33 he still hasn’t figured out how to drive a car. |
Simon Malfin Instructor

Simon is part-time member of our Flight team. In his spare time he flys a ATR-72 for Air Contractors. He enjoys running, skiing and other numerous fitness activities. |
